One Week on Oahu: What to See, Do, and Eat

One Week on Oahu: What to See, Do, and Eat

Oahu was our home for 7 nights and 8 peaceful days in mid-October where we swam with vibrant fish, undertook sweaty yet rewarding hikes, and feasted on the freshest of local bites. The trip was partially business, as we plan to have our wedding on the island next summer and wanted to see the venue and meet vendors there, but honestly most of it was pleasure. This was the first time Roger and I had spent an entire week in one location since most of our trips consist of jumping from place to place every few days (see: How We Visited 5 Countries in 19 Days). It felt really good to sink our teeth (and toes) into one destination and relax. We fell in love with the island and can’t wait to celebrate with our closest friends and family there next year. Here’s a look at our week on Oahu and what to see, do, and eat on the island.

A Weekend in Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks

A Weekend in Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks

This weekend at Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks marked my third and fourth national parks visits for the year following Pinnacles and Joshua Tree, and I think they might be my favorite of 2018 so far! Living in the Bay Area, we are fortunate enough to make a weekend trip out of the expansive parks with them being just about a 4 hour drive from our front steps. We left on a Friday right after work and stayed a couple nights in the nearby town of Fresno since all the parks’ campgrounds were booked when we decided to go. It was 48 hours of worthwhile hikes, gorgeous views, and lots of neck craning to gaze up at the towering sequoia trees. If you’re hoping to visit (or just curious about the area), here are recommendations and a look at what we did on our weekend in scenic Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks.

Beaches and Beer: A Weekend in San Diego

Beaches and Beer: A Weekend in San Diego

It’s probably been about two decades since Roger or I visited sunny San Diego as kids and all I can remember are the aquarium and zoo. It’s definitely not the closest Californian city to us, but we decided to make a weekend jaunt of it after hearing such great things from friends. Aside from the obvious beach-y reasons, I was really excited to experience the city’s expansive beer scene and diverse restaurant offerings. We drove down on Friday and stayed at an Airbnb in Thousand Oaks to avoid the always-dreaded Los Angeles traffic, and explored the seaside town of Ventura on the way down. What should’ve been a 5 hour drive some how turned into an 8 hour journey! Nonetheless, Ventura is a quaint town worth visiting if you have the chance to drive down the coast. We got a very early start the next morning en route to San Diego and boy did we pack a lot into that Saturday. My consensus of the city? Its coastline is breathtaking, the beer and food is wonderful, and I can’t wait to go back. Here is what we did on our worthwhile weekend in San Diego and what I would recommend during your stay!
